"The pride of many pterran warriors is to have subdued a young wild pterrax. Though it is a common accomplishment, only a few select ones will be called true pterrax riders. Mostly found in the village of Lost Scale, pterrax riders are fighters who are so closely related to their flying mount that they decided to dedicate it their life. In Lost Scale, they are the main military force, but some are used as look-outs or become adventurers."

To qualify to become a Pterrax Rider, a character must fulfill all the following criteria:
Skills: 8 ranks in Ride, 4 ranks in Handle Animal and 2 ranks in Intuit Direction
Feats: Mounted Combat, Weapon focus (Missile weapon or heavy/light lance) and [Ride-by Attack OR Mounted Archery]
The Pterrax Rider's class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Balance (Dex), Concentration (Con), Diplomacy (Cha), Gather Information (Cha), Handle Animal (Cha), Intuit Direction (Wis), Knowledge (Weather) (Int), Knowledge (Nature) (Int), Listen (Wis), Ride (Dex), Sense Motive (Wis), Spot (Wis) and Wilderness Lore (Wis). See Chapter 4: Skills in the Player's Handbook for skill descriptions.
Skill Points at Each Additional Level: 4 + Int modifier.
All of the following are class features of the Pterrax Rider prestige class.
Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Pterrax Riders are proficient with all simple and martial weapons, with light armors and shields.
Pterrax Owner: At the first level, you gain possession of a Pterrax. In order to have it, you must spend two months trying to handle such a creature.
Empathic Bond: You are gifted of an empathic bond with your Pterrax since you are close to it.
Bonus Feat: The Pterrax Rider must choose is bonus feat from this list: Alertness, Trample, Ride-by Attack, Spirited Charge, Point Blank Shot, Far Shot, Precise Shot and Rapid Shot. These feats can be found in Chapter 5: Feats of the Player's Handbook. They can choose from these Darksun feats as well: Attention to Detail, Find Water and Heat Protection.
Air Fighting: A Pterrax Rider apply +1 bonus to all is attack with is selected weapon while fighting mounted on is Pterrax.
Pterrax Riding Knowledge: You gain a +5 to all riding check regarding your Pterrax.
Telepathic Bond: As you arrive to your 7th level, as Pterran are born with wild telepathy, they learn to communicate telepathically with their Pterrax.
Mounted Dodge: Same as Dodge from PhB, but it work when you are riding your Pterrax.
Pterrax Master Rider: When you achieve the Master Rider level (10th), you gain +1 to all check related to everything you may do while mounting your Pterrax or everything that may happen while you're riding.
Weather Instinct: Each level, for is knowledge of the sky and weather, the Pterrax Rider get a +1 to Knowledge (Weather) when determining what's going to happen to the weather in a near future (within 6 hours).

* Usually, you have to choose which type of creature you know how to ride and have to choose a creature type for the Mounted Combat feat (as well as for other feats related to riding). Each time an "*" will appear right to a class features, it mean it's for the Pterrax creature or flying reptile medium type.
